Leader Lizelle and AWANA on the BlogSpot!
Last week I met up with the beautiful Lizelle Tayler, a 3rd year BEd student at the University of Johannesburg and one of the Awana leaders.
Lizelle joined Awana when she heard from friends and she immediately wanted to take part and help the children from her community.
Over the last sixty years Awana International has partnered with churches and parents to raise children with the lasting faith in Christ and Awana is also held local . Lizelle explained that Awana involves children from the age of 2 years to the youth in high school.
Children meet every Friday in local churches. The Awana club Lizelle is part of is held at AFM Church, Newclaire. At Awana children get to learn about God, read the bible, learn salvation scriptures and play games.
Lizelle says games is what attract the children and the youth to Awana and there is also Awana Olympics that happen every year. This year the 2012 Awana Olympics are happening on the 18th of August .
The children and the youth love to play, so learning about the word of God, making friends and competing with the fellow Christians in the Olympic Games is very exciting for them and they all want to take part.
Lizelle with her beautiful smile emphasized that to be a good Awana leader you need to be trained, you need devotion, be prepared to praise and worship. Children need to look at a good example. A leader for Awana must also have a lifestyle that leads the children and the youth to worship. You need to be able to work, speak with children and be in control of any crisis.
Awana has different groups that wear difference uniforms. Grade 1, 2, and 3 are children called Cubbies, they wear nervy blue uniform. In grade 4 and 5, are children called Sparks and they have yellow uniform, grade 6 and 7 it’s the group called Torch and they wear dark blue uniform, last but not least is the youth from grade 8 to 10, they are the junior and they wear mustard uniform.
